In the psychology department, I was overall pleased with all the professors. All of them are very passionate about their work and invested in their students' holistic experience at MSU. There's lots of opportunity for research and enrichment, you just have to ask and take advantage of offers!
It's a large student population -- around 20,000. That can be tricky (or exciting) in developing a social circle.
The faculty was very accessible and genuinely involved in students' academic journeys. The student body was full of social interactions and community betterment groups.
The parking is a nightmare. Plan to arrive on campus at least an hour ahead of schedule to increase the chance of a parking spot within a mile of campus.
My Favorite thing about Missouri State is that within my program I am able to have a relationship with every professor because of the size of the program.
The only downside to Missouri State is that Greenwood Private School is on campus so there is usually middle school to high school-aged students in the student union.
I enjoy the sociability of those I go to school with.
I don't enjoy the dining hall food.
I absolutely enjoyed every moment that I had. I was very active in my dorm and campus events. Loved most of my classes and teachers. The only thing that I would do differently is I should have stayed on campus to be more focused on my schoolwork and would have had better relationships with my friends.
The parking garages were in need of an upgrade. Just because you paid for a parking pass doesn't guarantee you a parking space. Depending on the time of day and what was going on that day you may not find a space on campus. I know the issue was brought up to them before I graduated but I haven't checked to see if they did anything about it.
Pretty much every professor I have had has been amazing. I am mainly in the College of Public Affairs within the history department and the anthropology/sociology department and every professor I have had has been understanding, fun, and actively tries to get to know their students.
At times there is a lack of communication by departments to students. This would probably be my only complaint since it can make it hard to know some things, like at times what you need to do for your degree. However, most of the time this can be cleared up after scheduling a meeting with your advisor.
