I know why the word if has inspired the rise of mankind through time. If I rub these two sticks together will I have an ember? All work, triumph, and tragedy begin with an if. These two letters have driven the course of everything in my life. I was born to question and discover. I have found my personal strengths in the water and have discovered that pain is temporary and my limits are toothpicks to be broken. I have learned through my years of dedication in the National History Day Program what sacrifice and honor mean and have dedicated a part of my life to preserving the memories of the past. I have learned by becoming my grandmother's shadow as she tended to the sick of our community that service and compassion are what this world needs. I have also learned that my life goal is to serve in a rural area where doctors have turned from and desperately need my help. I also understand that I am an if. I am a million possibilities to be opened and discovered. I am an if. That is why I am an excellent candidate because for hundreds of years we have used that little word to open the world and all of its wonders. I am an if, so bet on me.
