I want to thank you in advance for considering me for this scholarship. After many years working as a support staff in various Connecticut libraries, I have decided to make the leap and get my graduate degree. I had a rocky road to get my first college degree. I began my undergraduate education in 1988 as an independent teen with no parents. I worked three jobs -- one of which was at Avery Point Library, which I truly enjoyed. I struggled to keep afloat financially during those years, only to then suffer the loss of my brother after my first semester. For a time, it seemed easier to put my college dreams aside, but I eventually returned to my education, slowly pursuing my undergraduate degree, finally achieving it in 2005 and becoming the first person in my family to get their BA. I have valued every step I made in this journey. As I have grown in the library profession, I have decided that pursuing my graduate degree can benefit the greater library community. While I personally feel that I have more to give in the field of Children's Services, I also look forward to nurturing others in this exciting and worthy role in library services. I hope you will consider gifting me with this scholarship to help me fulfill those achievements.
